Joyful! Joyful! We adore thee.
But these trite metaphors don't do shit for me.
Especially when I can see
Peoples lives destroyed by poverty
The money man with the capitol gains
Institution and Corruptions are one and the same.
Gas prices soar because the market won't bear it.
But we went to war for oil fields so if the shoe fits WEAR IT!
This shit is crazy! Where is the love and charity?
The pastor man smiles in service but hates you secretly.
"Get the Hell out of my church. How dare you worship differently.
"This is MY house, MY church, I'm running the show.
So sit your ass down, and stay off the front row
Because that's where my family and the politicians go.
And OH YEAH! Jesus loves you. I just thought you should know".
So what do we do? Do we fight or just cry?
Either way its certain that our faith will die.
When we realize its not faith at all but a big fucking lie
And things will never change, no matter what I try.
Damn.
I mean, Damn!
That is all.
Well, except this...
Damn.

I have a new theme song. Well, this and Mahnamahna!

Our suroundings can't make our faith die, if anything we should grow through it. We are the only ones who are responcable for our faith Adam.
Misplaced faith is a lie and will let you down.
As for this life never changing... Yeah it will, but it will be unexpected and it will shake up alot of things, hopefully alot of lives will change then.
But for now, we are responcable for our own lives and those we have an effect on.

Thanks for the meaningless platitudes, Lauren. Nice of you to drop by.

I'll weigh in on this, I guess:
1. The trite metaphors are not for you, they're for god.
2. Poverty eh? Blame Adam (the one that lived in Eden) or blame corporate greed, or government greed... In fact, try to find much misery in the world that isn't somehow attributable to people being jerks.
3. Where's the love and charity? If people were always about love and charity, they'd be perfect. Then they wouldn't need churches, confession & absolution, communion, and baptism.
4. Worship differently? Why do we get to decide how God gets worshipped? Isn't that kinda his decision? Alternatively, who are we to casually discard 2000 years of tradition just because we feel like it? It isn't about us.
On the other hand, if the church you're rhyming about isn't concerned with sin & salvation as much as it is with mixing and mingling, maybe you're right on point.

Holy Shit! This is why I hesitated to write something. At least two of you completely misunderstood the idea of the post. FUCK!
Posted by: Adam | August 20, 2005 at 02:45 PM
Sorry about that Adam, but since I've already misunderstood, I think I'll continue:
Don't even get me started on why capital gains are a good thing. You see, if you earn income over time there are these tax brackets, but if you earn it in a big chunk your brackets get all screwy and its an unfair burden, so we adjust the tax rate lower for a capital... nevermind.
I love this site.
Posted by: Law Bob Esq. | August 20, 2005 at 05:23 PM
boo fucking hoo to those people who earn money in "big chunks." unfair burden? holy crap. oh whose backs are they earning those big bucks...
Posted by: swright | August 20, 2005 at 05:32 PM
damn, made me so mad I posted twice...now I'm over it..so how about those drillers?
Posted by: swright | August 20, 2005 at 05:34 PM
Well, if I work hard every day, I get a paycheck. I can live in an apartment and put the excess in the bank. In the bank, it will gain a little interest every year. I'll pay taxes on that interest every year, and I will usually stay in the same tax bracket.
If I buy a house, I put that extra into paying off my mortgage sooner. Instead of earning interest in a bank, My money is in my house, and the value goes up over time. When I finally sell my house, now I have all that income in the same year, and I DON'T stay in the same bracket.
My taxes should not be different based on where I invest what little income I have. Thats why we have capital gains tax rates.
Posted by: Law Bob Esq. | August 20, 2005 at 10:32 PM
Hmm.. I don't know a whole lot about capital gains and all that crap, but I do know that I liked the post. I think you need to get a turn table, and a mic, turn it into a rap song, and then make enough money to maybe pay for a tank of gas. I think it just might work...
Posted by: Amanda | August 21, 2005 at 01:29 AM
Bob,
Do you also respond this way to (say) Robert Frost poems? I think what Adam is getting at is that there's a genre issue going on here--it's an artistic expression, not a philosophical treatise.
Posted by: Leighton | August 21, 2005 at 10:29 AM
To add to what Leighton just said, I'd like to point out that the line is actually "capitol gains," not "capital gains."
In my opinion, that's not only a clever turn of a phrase, but it also makes the lengthy comments about capital gains that much more tangential.

Amazing, Adam - Love the passion as always. I so want my past "faith" to die. It was a lie - calling a spade a spade - and most pastors I worked with really hated their congregants (I know because I heard this directly from them)
I am just wanting the "false religious self" to die - I am tired of trying to prop up my faith on religious trends that are meaningless and trite. Way to go!!
